We need to talk about it

The last week has been rough. Being a human person is hard enough, but since Renee Good was murdered (just a few miles from here), I’ve been really struggling to concentrate.

I wrote a little on LinkedIn about what I’ve seen and what I think, and if you’re reading this I know I don’t have to tell you where I stand.

But the narrative sticks. Since last Tuesday, the background noise in my head is only about how unsafe I feel. I’m reeling at all of the freedoms I’ve taken for granted my entire life that seem to have just disappeared. I struggle to comprehend the fear others are experiencing if I’m among the most privileged of our citizens.

So I protested. I attended training webinars. I joined Signal groups. I doomscrolled. I cried.

Our Herd’s Monday morning gathering provided a lovely container for sharing my fear and being supported in it. Some other members of my Herd are also going through it, and they were able to share their experiences and hopes. One member observed, “hearing you talk about your experience with [struggle] helps to heal my own.”

So that’s what I have to offer you this week: A tiny little slice of why this is important, and an invitation to learn more.

I understand that Buffalo Collective isn't just a new organization, it's also a new idea for a business.

If you are curious, and maybe a little confused, that only makes sense.

We're blending old ideas and new ones, challenging established norms, and generally charting a new course through old storms.

We can be a community of folks sharing our personal work alongside our economic work.

We can be a community that relies on technology to meet a basic human need of authentic connection.

We can be increasing the well-being of our community without being health practitioners.

Next Friday, January 30th at noon Central Time, I'll be on Zoom for anyone who wants to drop in and learn more. We can talk about what's happening here in Minnesota, or about the inspiration behind our Herds, or why I think magic mushrooms are cause of and solution to human consciousness, or anything else.

I'm also looking for partners who can help me make the vision of Buffalo Collective a reality through payment-deferred services, sponsorships or collaborations. If you are a service provider to new/small businesses (e.g., lawyers, accountants, designers/web developers), I'd especially like to connect.

Send me an email to let me know you're interested, and I'll add you to the event.
